Automated storage and retrieval systems (AS/RS) is the collective name for a variety of types of warehouse automation, but mainly lifts and paternosters. Basically, all automated storage systems have the same principle, “Goods-To-Person”, i.e. instead of having to run around among shelves to pick your goods, the goods come automatically to the picker. In addition to the ability to quickly and automatically get goods to a picker, it is also the space saving that is the big win with storage machines. Depending on the design, it is estimated that you can save between 50-80% of the space that normal shelf racks would take by storing the goods in a storage machine.

Vending machines in Sweden
Vending machines have been around in Sweden for a long time, especially through paternoster plants that began to grow in popularity in the 80s. Since the 80s, you can find almost one paternoster in every medium-sized Swedish workshop/factory. In the early 1990s, the automatic lift was invented, but it was not until the end of the same decade that these began to grow in popularity. The use of the vertical storage lift to create efficient picking solutions meant that in the early 2000s, the solution led the trend in the automatic storage category. Today, when both solutions are well established, it is entirely the need that determines which solution is best for each customer.
Common models of vending machines
There are a variety of models and brands available in the vending industry. The most common models in Sweden are manufactured by Weland Solutions and Kardex Remstar, where their respective models for vertical storage lifts are called Weland Compact Lift, Weland Compact Twin and Kardex Shuttle XP. We usually have plenty of these models in stock, if you are looking for a special height or width, you are welcome to contact us.
