Dismantling of a Vertical Carousel
– things to keep in mind
It happens quite often that companies contact us wanting to sell equipment that has already been dismantled, which can be both incredibly convenient and a little daunting.
Why is that? Well, Vertical Carousel It may be fairly simple in design, and there are plenty of skilled electricians, mechanics, and technicians in this country who can figure out how to take one apart—but very few know how to do it without damaging the equipment.

Hire professionals to dismantle Vertical Carousels
Our first (and perhaps most obvious) tip is to definitely hire professionals. There are 4, 5, or possibly 6 companies in Sweden that truly have experience dismantling, moving, and reassembling Vertical Carousels.
In addition to the equipment manufacturers, there are a few independent companies that specialize in this type of equipment; these companies can be a bit harder to find for those unfamiliar with the industry—please feel free to contact us, and we’ll point you in the right direction.
If you’d prefer to handle the disassembly yourself, please read on.

Stools
When dismantling a Vertical Carousel with the intention of moving and reassembling it, proper packaging is of the utmost importance—cutting corners here rarely pays off in the long run. Damage to simple spare parts that need to be replaced can quickly exceed the cost of a few sturdy, specialized pallets. Do you have experience moving Vertical Lift Modules If you've done this before, keep in mind that a Vertical Carousel generally has slightly heavier components.
We recommend focusing primarily on special pallets for the following three parts of the Vertical Carousel:
- A sturdy platform capable of supporting the entire length of the Vertical Carousel
- A slightly longer and sturdier bench for handling carriers (the machine's shelves)
- Long pallet for handling the machine's sheets
The remaining parts of the paternoster lift can generally be handled using a standard EU pallet.
Other packaging
In addition to specialized pallets and standard EU pallets, other packaging materials also play a significant role in preventing problems during a move.
A few things to keep in mind:
- Buy sturdy studs (e.g., 45x125) to place between the gables, stacking them on top of each other
- Use 45x45 studs when stacking the carriers of the Paternoster system on top of each other; furring strips or thinner studs can easily snap
- Use a strapping machine with strong strapping, such as PET strapping or steel strapping (PP strapping is not recommended)
- Wrap the items tightly in stretch film; even though it may seem like flimsy packaging, it’s enough to keep the items from shifting
Forklifts
Once the packaging is in place and of the right type, it’s also important that the goods are handled properly when they need to be moved—this is where the forklifts play a key role. In addition to 1–2 pallet jacks, which can be useful for maneuvering long items, etc., a good counterbalance forklift is required.
First of all, it’s a good idea to have a high-capacity forklift when operating a Vertical Carousel, We recommend a counterbalance forklift that can handle 2,000 kg or more.
It is also important that the forklift be able to raise the forks high enough to handle the ends of the pawl. To safely lower the ends, the forks must be raised to a height equal to three-quarters of the Vertical Carousel’s height.
If the machine is 7,000 mm long, the forklift must therefore be able to lift it to a height of approx. 5,250 mm.
Last but not least, it is also important to have long forks available. The depth of a pallet on a Vertical Carousel is typically between 1,400 and 1,700 mm; handling this with standard forks can be unstable. Similarly, long forks make it much easier to handle carriers, which often measure over or around 3,000 mm.
Don't rush
With the right pallets, other packaging materials, and reliable forklifts, you have everything you need for a smooth dismantling process, so our final tip is to try to avoid stressful situations.
Plan the dismantling well in advance of the deadline for moving the equipment out of the building, and above all, don’t rush during the loading process.
