Used Vertical Lift Modules and a warehouse relocation gave FILA Nordic increased storage capacity

FILA Nordic is a leading wholesaler in the Nordic market for creative products and industrial markers on behalf of its parent company, FILA Group. Its product range includes paper, pens, and art supplies, which are supplied to the education, industrial, and art sectors.

As part of its plans to relocate its entire warehousing operations, FILA Nordic contacted Relevator to assess the residual value of two Kardex Remstar Shuttle XP 500 Vertical Lift Modules, which were as new as the 2017 model year.

FILA Nordic’s question was whether it was worth moving the Vertical Lift Modules to their new warehouse, or whether it would be more cost-effective to buy new ones?

Planning for the move

Based on a direct cost comparison between relocating their current Vertical Lift Modules and purchasing new ones, there was no question about it—relocating would have been the cheapest option. However, the final answer to their question wasn’t quite that simple, as they placed a high value on a quick, easy, and hassle-free move from their current warehouse to the new one. Furthermore, it wasn’t just the Vertical Lift Modules that needed to be moved, but also the thousands of items stored inside them.

With a good resale value, a smooth move could be the deciding factor

Relevator was able to offer both a sufficiently high residual value and a proposal for how the move could be carried out smoothly, which ultimately led FILA Nordic to decide to sell its Vertical Lift Modules from 2017 and purchase new ones for its future inventory.

FILA Nordic purchased two new Vertical Lift Modules with identical trays, but the new facility allowed for an additional 4 meters of height to increase storage capacity, as well as the ability to configure the lift openings using Kardex’s latest technology for efficiency and picking safety.

The new Vertical Lift Modules were set up in the new warehouse before the move took place. When the Vertical Lift Modules in the old warehouse were subsequently emptied, they were cleared of their contents, but without removing the stored goods from the trays. This saved hundreds of man-hours, as there was no need to unload the goods from the old Vertical Lift Modules, and an equal number of hours were saved by not having to restock the same goods in the new Vertical Lift Modules.

FILA Nordic received cash to purchase new Vertical Lift Modules, a smooth relocation—and a new warehouse equipped with state-of-the-art automation.
